Build by day, defend by night
Duck Survival tower defense is not a separate mode — it is the campaign loop. Day phase pauses pressure so you place Gold Mines, Machine Gun Towers, Infantry Camps, EMP Towers, and wall upgrades. Night phase tests whether that setup survives timed hordes and boss icons on the wave bar.
Players who lose before dawn usually under-invest in chokepoints or economy. Players who lose to timers often need carry damage or control, not another level-one tower on an empty lane. Pair this guide with the campaign walkthrough and best buildings overview.
Economy structures first
Gold Mines and similar income buildings fund every later decision. Skipping economy for early towers feels safer but starves day three and four when upgrade costs spike. A common rule: secure one income node, add one strong tower at the primary leak lane, then expand.
When coins run low, replay earlier nights for income or claim gift codes before buying premium shortcuts.
Tower types and jobs
Machine Gun Towers provide sustained single-target fire with high attack speed — excellent at chokepoints. Infantry Camps add survivability and consistent DPS. EMP Towers disable or slow groups, amplifying control skills and freeze picks. Laser cannons and explosive decoys unlock as fortress evolution progresses.
Upgrade existing towers before spreading new placements unless a second leak lane opens. Concentrated levels outperform scattered level-one structures. Element synergies are covered on the element synergies page.
Reading night failures
If one enemy type breaks through repeatedly, check whether that lane lacks control or anti-tank damage. If the whole base collapses uniformly, defense walls or Eric-style fortress heroes may be the fix. If timers expire with the base healthy, raise carry DPS via heroes, skills, or gear from the gear guide.
Roguelike picks during night should match the failure: EMP when groups stack, freeze when speed is the issue, area clear when density is the issue. See the best skills guide for pick order.
Fortress evolution and long-term planning
Each survived night fuels base evolution — walls, laser cannons, decoys, and cosmetic duck skins. Evolution rewards compound, so stabilizing early chapters matters more than rushing a distant chapter with a brittle base.
For campaign tasks like capture enemy camp, read the dedicated capture camp guide because those objectives are hold timers, not pure DPS races.
